Have you ever noticed a verse in the Bible like this where it doesn’t make much literal sense? As we know nothing is in the Bible for no purpose at all. Everything is in the Bible for a specific purpose. These are faith building verses.

When a verse doesn’t make literals sense, you need to look for a symbolic message in the verse.

Ecclesiastes 9:8 has four symbols in it that will help explain the message that God put in the verse for our edification:

  • Garments
  • White
  • Head
  • Ointment / Oil

These four symbols now give our verse a deep meaning.

Let thy Character be always pure, and let your thoughts/mind never lack the Holy Spirit. (or Guidance of the Holy Spirit). Ecclesiastes 9:8

In other words, a pure character is guided by pure thoughts from the Holy Spirit.
